One of my New Year's resolutions for 2014 is to be better about remembering the birthdays & anniversaries of my closest friends & family, namely by making a custom greeting card for each one. Well, one of the very first things I did was completely miss my in-laws' anniversary last week.
Mission failed?
Not quite.
Last Friday, I decided to sit down and make a wedding card for a colleague, as well knock out a couple art prints that I had promised a friend...oh...before last Christmas. (To be fair, I had warned her it would be a while before I could get to the prints.)
Then I saw the missed anniversary on the calendar, and decided to go ahead and make a card for that, too, before it became egregiously too late to send one. (Good thing my in-laws are pretty cool about belated-yet-heartfelt sentiments.) After I invaded the entire dining room table with my card supplies, I noticed that three birthdays were coming up later in the same month. And it hit me:
Why don't I make cards to cover the whole month?
And so the great weekend card-making binge began.
I'm quite pleased with the results of my binge. Honestly, I think it's some of the best work that I've done in months, and it feels good to be prepared for upcoming commemorations. I ended up making more cards than I'd planned, so I'm now covered throughout May!
It was a weekend well-spent, and this creative is definitely in her happy place now.

On Limits, Hard Choices, and Letting Go
I've been thinking lately. Agonizing, really. Agonizing over having too many hobbies & pursuits & not enough time to do or become good at anything. Feeling guilty & continually frustrated at the lack of time, & feeling foolish about promising myself & others that I would get back to it. (Looking at you, dA "updates" for the last two years.)
I realized that the only practical way for me to stop the guilt & frustration was to start choosing. Choosing what pursuits are closest to my heart, letting go of the pursuits that aren't so close, & then committing to those pursuits that make the cut. It's not easy to admit th
Realistic Indefinite Hiatus
Captain Obvious here to tell you that Everyday Vignettes is now officially going on another indefinite hiatus. I'm in the process of upgrading to a new, faster computer & life is coming at me in all directions right now. I will take up short fiction again, perhaps not on a daily basis, but right now I have to admit to myself that some things have to go until I can work in a regular commitment.
I absolutely hate being one of those on-again-off-again creators, but it kinda looks like I've done that anyway, huh? Anyway, I'll still be occasionally checking into dA, & I'll build up a buffer in the stolen moments I have in the upcoming mon
Life Changes and Everyday Vignettes
So here's the good news: I have a new freelance contract that will earn me more monies (glorious monies!), and DH all-but-officially has his own job offer nailed down.
Here's the bad news: my schedule has been thrown into crazy-go-nuts land, and it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to settle into a new routine for a few weeks.
So, for those of you who actually Watch me (oh, faithful few!), this means that the Everyday Vignettes will be delayed just a little bit longer. Let's say no more than a week. I haven't abandoned dA and the Everyday Vignettes project entirely. I just have to find a new normal and work my hobby back into that.

I wrote a guest post for a blog!
My friends run a creativity blog at The Spare Room Project, and I was asked to write a guest post for them about Everyday Vignettes. So I did! The post is here for your reading pleasure! I had a great time doing it, and it was so nice to be part of my friends' burgeoning project.
